ATTENTION MEMBERS: CRIME NOTICE FROM MARION COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TARGETING REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONALS

Deputy Paul Bloom, Marion County Sheriff’s Officer, has brought to our attention a crime that occurred targeting a real estate professional here in Marion County. This past weekend, an agent was contacted and asked to show a home that was for sale. The agent arrived at the home at the appointment time. However, the client did not show up. Meanwhile, the agent received a call from a local check cashing business stating that someone was trying to cash a personal check belonging to and “endorsed” by the agent. The agent told them that this was fraudulent and notified law enforcement. The Marion County Sheriff’s office was able to catch the subject while je was still at the check cashing store. The subject had broken into the agents home and stolen the checks after the agent left to go show the home for sale.

Please be cautious. This may be a simple isolated incident where the subject was arrested. But, we wanted you to be aware of this in case it is something that others may try to copy. Please contact Deputy Paul Bloom or the Marion County Sheriff’s office if you know of any suspicious incidents that may seem related or if you have any questions.
